Freestyle Judging-criteria

Judging criteria

We differenciate three major criteria to score a heat:

1. Difficultiness:

* Power of the kite while the trick is executed (Position of the kite during a

   wakestyle move)
* Tecnical difficultiness of the trick (this does not mean that e.g. a railey to

blind automatically will be scored higher than a regular railey)
* Speed of the kite and the rider during the trick.
* Riskiness of the rider. When and how a trick is executed? This means the

risk e.g. a rider is attemting a highly difficult trick at the beginning of his

taking the risk that he will loose bar or has to relaunch the kite...)

1. Variety:

* Different tricks. This means we do not want to see ten times the same

trick. After having shown a move once with propoer execution and safe

landing any rider should avoide showing the same trick again. If he does

so the rider will automatically loose the level scoring even if the tricks will

   be scored.
* Different kinds of tricks. Wakestyle passes (kgb, blind judge,...), to blind

(s-bend, Backroll,...), kiteloops (backroll, L3, bs 3,...), switch Tricks (in both

   directions, not toeside) etc.

1. Impression:

* Or let`s call it style: This means, if a trick is difficult but looks poor in

execution it will be scored lower than a less difficult trick wich is performed

perfectly smooth. This however will be a subjective impression of the

judging team but is very important!
* Tricks wich are seen not too often.
* No unnecessary tricks (surface passes, any transition a little pop and -

again: not the same trick ten times in a row.
* Tricks wich take some respect (e.g. high Kiteloop- or kungfu passes).
* The more crashes, the lower the score. The heat should perform some

   kind of flow.

* Tricks not landed will not be scored, but in some exceptions can influence

the overall impression. A trick will be judged as not performed if the rider

   does not land board first.
* If after a precise landing an arm, head or shoulder touched the surface of

the water a trick will be scored less valuable.
* Due to the risk of injury the initiation and performance of the jump have

to be inside the Judging Area. Otherwise the trick will not be scored. Also

landward has to be enough distance bit landing can also be outside the

   judging area.
* Theresults can not be questioned. Any rider can ask the head judge

about reasons for the judging decision while the transition.
* If any rider acts unfair during his heat, preperatoy time or also in the free

riding this can lead to discqualification after only one warning. Regarding

right of way the regular rules of kiteboarding will be valid.

Heat Format

- Our freestyle competition were possible will be based on single or double elimination ladders, depending on the number of competitors and time available.

- Rider’s names shall be entered onto the elimination ladders according to the tour-seeding list. Note the first event of the series is a none seeded event and names will be drawn for ladders placements.

- Byes if any are required shall be positioned so that they are allocated to the most highly ranked riders. A Bye card will be added to the draw in the first event if required.

- Riders shall compete against each other in one or two pairs

- During the single elimination, the men’s contest results will be considered valid for that event when the quarterfinals or beyond are reached. For the women’s competition results will be considered valid for that event once the semifinals or beyond are reached.

- If the looser side of the double elimination is partly completed, the results of each completed round or column of the looser side shall count in combination with the remainder of the winner side.

- The head judge before the start shall specify the duration of the heats and the transition period at the riders meeting. If needed times can be modified at any time.

- All heat ladders and times will be posted on the official notice board.

- The head judge may postpone a heat before the starting signal for any reason.

- The head judge may abandon a heat after it has started because due to safety, fairness of competition and changes in conditions or wind strength.

 Seeding
